A kids birthday gets much easier once you know the formula: an age-appropriate theme, one color code and the right finale. Here is how it works and what to order so the party looks cohesive in photos and does not wear the parents out.
Themes by age
Age 1. Soft tones, a big number and a balloon cloud. The party is mostly for the parents and the photos: gentle colors and a couple of figures are plenty for the baby.
Ages 2-4. Dinosaur, unicorn and butterfly time. Anything bright and recognizable works, and character figures cause delight all by themselves.
Ages 5-7. Princesses, football, superheroes and space. Kids already pick the theme themselves: just ask and bring us the answer.
Ages 8-10. Neon, gamer motifs and pool parties. Here a photo zone for friends matters more than character figures.

Heat and balloons: what to know
Direct sun shortens the life of any balloon, so we do outdoor setup close to the start time and keep arrangements in the shade. Helium balloons last noticeably longer indoors. For the youngest kids foil figures are safer: never let children handle fragments of popped latex balloons.
